Save the Date 10/8/11

We found the place! It is all set. Save the Date for October 8, 2011 in Laguna Beach, California.
The entire wedding will be held at La Casa del Camino.  La Casa del Camino opened in 1929.  It is a Mediterranean-style boutique hotel that sits oceanside in Laguna. We cannot wait for everyone to see the view!

From the 405 freeway:

From Los Angeles or from any north Orange County city take the 405 South and exit at the 133 South. Follow the 133 south through Laguna Canyon. Continue traveling until you come to Pacific Coast Highway and turn left. Take PCH South five minutes until you reach Cress Street. Turn right and La Casa del Camino will be on the right (corner of PCH and Cress). 

From PCH (Pacific Coast Highway):

Pacific Coast Highway runs straight through Laguna Beach. Coming from LAX you can exit the 405 and access PCH through either the Seal Beach BLVD exit or the Beach BLVD exit. In either case take the exit towards the ocean and turn left on PCH.  PCH can be filled with traffic but it is a beautiful drive South.

Getting to California!

Flying to Southern California!

*Advice about flying to Socal...watch for sales. Every once in a while airlines have special rates posted from Chicago to Los Angeles.
** Check out the budget airlines (Virgin, Southwest, JetBlue, etc).
*** The best place to search for fares is on the individual airlines websites or Kayak.com

There are three airports that you can fly into.

LAX (Los Angeles)

• Most major airlines fly from O'Hare into LAX (Virgin, JetBlue, American, and United). 
• This can be the least expensive option because it is a major airport. 
• LAX is 53 miles from Laguna Beach.
• Southwest flies from Midway to LAX. 

LGB (Long Beach)

• Long Beach is a small airport. 
• JetBlue is one of the major airlines that fly into Long Beach.
• Long Beach is 5 minutes from Seal Beach and 34 miles from Laguna Beach.

SNA (John Wayne - Orange County)

• Orange County is another smaller airport. 
• Many major airlines fly from Chicago to Orange County but there tend to be very few non-stop flights from O-hare or Midway.
• Flights into Orange County airport can also tend to be more expensive.
• Orange County airport is approx 15 miles from Laguna Beach.

Getting to the Hotel from Airport

There are a variety of rental car companies at each of the airports. Rental cars companies include: Budget, Alamo, Midway, Avis, Advantage, Enterprise, etc. Rental cars can ted to run less expensive at LAX because it is a major airport. The BEST place to look for inexpensive rates is HotWire, Expedia, or Orbitz.

There are several types of hotels room available at La Casa. Please know that all rooms only sleep two people and are very small. Hotel rooms range from $110 to $250 per night and there is a two night minimum. To reserve a room at La Casa please call the catering manager Lise Cowderoy at 949.315.2224. Tell her you are with our wedding and she will help you book for Friday, October 7th and Saturday, October 8th. All rooms at La Casa must be booked through Lise.

For those of you who plan to come earlier than the wedding weekend (7th-9th) or stay longer, feel free to book rooms whereever you would like to visit. You can stay at La Casa del Camino or any number of beautiful California hotels in Newport Beach or Huntington Beach.

If you have never visited our hometown of Seal Beach then we suggest you do! We are working on a group rate at the Pacific Inn in Seal Beach. This is a great local hotel one block from Mark and Jamie and two blocks from the ocean. Seal Beach is like Lake Geneva dropped on the ocean. It is a perfect little town to visit when you come to California.

An Engagement in Paris!

Mark and I had been planning our trip to Paris and Spain for several months. Little did I know what else Mark had been planning. We arrive in Paris on Saturday, November 20th very late in the evening. After traveling into the city from the airport (and leaving Missy and Winter behind on the subway) we headed straight to the Eiffel Tower. Great first night in Paris! The next day we started early to tour the city. We visited the Museum de Orsey walked down the Champs Elysees, and hiked to the top of the Arc de Triumph. It was a long day but we decided to see Notre Dame before it closed for the evening. We toured the whole cathedral and then did some more stairs and visited the rooftop and bell tower. It was wonderful! Mark probably has twenty pictures of gargoyles from the roof and we all kept laughing about him and the gargoyles. As we made our way down from the top of Notre Dame, Mark and Winter were slow behind myself and Missy. When we reached the bottom Mark insisted he needed to sit down because his knee hurt from all the walking and stairs during the day. I, of course, was annoyed that he needed to take a break but reluctantly followed him into the Notre Dame garden for a seat. Mark grabbed my hand and started to talk to me but I thought he was kidding. I believe I told him "to shut up so we could go to dinner". He finally got down on one knee in front of the Cathedral and asked me to marry him. I said yes and the rest is history!
